On Friday, April 23, 2021, at 7:08 p.m. Beaumont Police responded to a major vehicle accident in the 2100 block of Highway 69.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a motorist was changing a flat tire on the side of the roadway. At this time, a dark colored suv was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control, striking the disabled vehicle. The driver of the SUV was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital and is listed in critical condition.
A three year old child passenger inside the SUV was not properly restrained in a safety seat sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Collins. The victim changing the tire was also injured and transported to be treated for his injuries. The investigation is still on-going.
The Beaumont Police Department wants to remind drivers to always make sure that children are properly restrained in their correct child safety seats.
