The City of Beaumont and BISD Hold First Ever Senior Job Fair to Help with Goals After Graduation
On Monday, May 8, 2023, from 10 am - 2 pm, the City of Beaumont and BISD will hold a job fair for seniors who haven’t yet made a decision about their future. Select students from Paul Brown Learning Center, West Brook High School, and Beaumont United High School will have the opportunity to interview with representatives from Beaumont ISD and the City of Beaumont at the Paul Brown Auxiliary Gym. The City has entry-level positions available in multiple departments from animal care, the library and event services to water utilities, parks, recreation, and code enforcement. Students will be able to learn about the various roles and requirements to see if their skillset might be a fit.
The idea came out of the joint board meeting between the City of Beaumont and Beaumont Independent School District as an opportunity to collaborate more between the city and school district. Workforce development was identified as a primary goal of the committee as stakeholders pondered how to create a pipeline of work programs for students. One of the ideas they came up with was a job fair.
“We are very excited to be able to engage with students before they graduate and provide some of these kids a plan so they can confidently go into summer knowing what they’ll be doing next year. These students can help fill some of the City’s staffing needs while offering them a look into some of the opportunities the public sector offers that they may not have considered. It’s a win-win,” said Miles Haynes, Assistant to the City Manager/Special Projects.
