The City of Beaumont and BISD Hold Joint Community Clean Up to Beautify Beaumont

On Saturday, May 13, from 10 am – 12 pm, the City of Beaumont and Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) staff and volunteers will hold a joint community cleanup event to help beautify Beaumont. Litter has become a major problem in our city and across the region.

Staff and volunteers will clean up around the neighborhoods of 24 locations that include all 23 BISD campuses and the City of Beaumont’s Sprott Park. The city’s participation in this event is part of the “Keep Texas Beautiful” initiative, the state-wide campaign that aims to educate and provide resources to keep local communities clean and beautiful.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.  Register to join us at tinyurl.com/NoLitterBMT.

In addition to physically getting our hands dirty, we want to remind citizens that littering negatively impacts the environment and public health and has associated economic costs. Instead of mindlessly tossing trash out of your car, be a good neighbor and put it in a trash can.

"This is just one of the ways the City and the school district are partnering this year," said Assistant City Manager June Ellis. "We hope to instill a sense of pride in the community to keep where we live clean and to make this an ongoing event that people want to participate in."

In addition to the Community Cleanup, BISD is launching an anti-littering poster campaign for grades K-12. Beaumont ISD district personnel and community/business partner representatives will judge top posters from each campus, and the winning designs will be published on social media, displayed at Beaumont ISD campuses, in select businesses, and presented at an upcoming Beaumont City Council meeting.

"I am excited about this additional partnership with our city to improve Beaumont.  It is important to teach our students to value not just their personal home, but learning environments, as well.  This project will hopefully help foster a desire to not just to keep our schools clean, but neighborhoods throughout the entire community.  I implore any community members to join us this Saturday and support a cleaner Beaumont,“ said Dr, Shannon Allen, Superintendent.

About the City of Beaumont: Beaumont, incorporated in 1838, is a coastal city in Southeast Texas 90 miles east of Houston and 60 miles west of Louisiana. The City is home to more than 115,000 residents and is the county seat of Jefferson County, Texas. The City's economic success started with the discovery of oil more than a century ago. Now entering a new Golden Era of the Golden Triangle, it is strategically positioned for unlimited growth and potential.
