You’re Invited: Riverfront Park Groundbreaking Ceremony
After sustaining significant damage from Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the long-awaited restoration of Riverfront Park is beginning. The contract was awarded to Callan Marine, Ltd. in January 2023, and they were given notice to proceed with the project on March 6, 2023. With 550 calendar days allocated, the project has a tentative completion date of September 6, 2024.
Callan officially relocated to the site this week, along with materials procurement. Demolition of landside items, along with marine items, will take place roughly April to May, while dredging and excavation are scheduled for May to September. Installation of the steel bulkhead will begin in September when the work will be most visually noticeable. You can see a video of the 3D rendering for the bank stabilization project that Lanier and Associates, Consulting Engineers, created here.
“We’re extremely excited to be kicking off the riverfront project,” said Bart Bartkowiak, Public Works Director. “That area is a major part of the City’s footprint and history, and we can’t wait for the park to reopen to citizens.”
A groundbreaking ceremony, open to the public, will be held on April 11, 2023, at 1:30 pm at the Riverfront Park Pavilion. If you plan on attending, it’s recommended to park at City Hall.
