BPD Officer Kolin Burmaster is retiring December 31, 2022 after 39 years of honorable service.
Officer Burmaster's public service career began in 1971 when he joined the United States Marine Corps (USMC) serving as a Military Police Officer as active & reserve duty until he retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1995 (24 years). He joined the Beaumont Police Department in 1983 and served 16 years as a Patrol Officer, 13 of those years as a Field Training Officer before moving to the Traffic Unit as a Motorcycle Officer in 1998. Officer Burmaster has served as a Motor Officer for 25 years, 20 of those years as a Police Motorcycle Instructor. He also served on BPD's Honor Guard for 27 years and has received numerous department awards including Officer of the Year (2 times), Distinguished Police Service Award (3 times), Chief of Police Commendation Award (5 times), a Unit Citation Award and numerous Police Motorcycle Awards.
Officer Burmaster is also well known at Rao's Bakery where he enjoys coffee during his breaks. Next Monday, December 5, 2022, Rao's Bakery on Calder will be hosting a fundraiser/retirement celebration in honor of Officer Burmaster. Donations and proceeds will benefit the USMC Toys for Tots Program which was chosen by Officer Burmaster. From 7:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., Officer Burmaster will be "Barista" Burmaster, as he serves coffee to raise money for his charity. Citizens are encouraged to stop by and wish him farewell as he embarks on his much deserved retirement.
