The Beaumont Public Library is hosting its first STEAM Camp, and everyone is invited to attend; no registration is required. Taking place at the Downtown Event Centre on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 9 am -12 pm, STEAM Camp is perfect for youth looking for a challenging, creative, and comprehensive experience as a fun end-of-summer extravaganza.

Focusing on science, technology, engineering, art, and math geared towards elementary-age children, community members and library staff will facilitate various activities using hands-on experimentation and technology across topics like audiovisual effects, horticulture, engineering, art, physics, and mechanics. Example activities include planting seeds, the art of music, spin painting, genealogy and Coat of Arms, recycle basketball, wind energy, green screen fun, building a "save the egg" contraption for a drop, and much more!

Working in creative spaces using their imaginations and a wide variety of materials, kids will design their own inventions and solve problems independently and collaboratively. Youth will question, explore, and understand their world through an enlightening variety of scientific and technological lenses.

Library Administrator Paul Eddy said, "We could not be more excited to be able to bring this event to Beaumont. It's a true community effort and a great way to cap off our summer programming before school restarts."

Community partners include a host of organizations and city departments, including The Children's Museum, H-E-B, Jefferson County Master Gardeners, NECHES Federal Credit Union, Beaumont Convention & Visitors Bureau, Make Creative Space, Tyrrell Historical Library, Texas Energy Museum, Lamar University - Department of Sustainability, The Art Museum of Southeast Texas, City Communications Department, Fleet Department, Friends of the Beaumont Public Library System, Fire Department, Beaumont Facilities Maintenance, Welton Everett, Beaumont Library Commission, and more.

About the Beaumont Public Library System: With four branches, the Tyrrell Historical Library, and the Maurine Gray Literacy Center, the Beaumont Public Library System is a true community hub with year-round programming. They circulate more than 350,000 items a year which includes an assortment of books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, newspapers, and STEAM backpacks available for checkout, in addition to offering monthly imagination kits, book clubs, access to OverDrive, a state-wide shared digital content library, CloudLibrary and Libby for E-books and audiobooks, free language learning classes, and more.
