Beaumont Animal Care Awarded Custody of Dogs from Sullivan St. Cruelty Case
June 2, 2022
Beaumont, Texas:
Yesterday morning, June 1st, Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, SR of Precinct 1, Place 2, awarded Beaumont Animal Care full custody of two dogs during a civil seizure hearing involving Beaumont Animal Care vs. Chris and Chantel Sundgren.
On May 18th, Beaumont Animal Care officers served a civil seizure warrant at 4613 Sullivan St. in Beaumont in order to gain custody of three dogs residing on the property. Prior to the seizure warrant being served, Beaumont Animal Care officers attempted to make contact with the residents of Sullivan on May 16th after complaints of cruelty had been made. After multiple failed attempts, the dogs were seized and in Beaumont Animal Care’s watch until being awarded full custody today.
Unfortunately, the dachshund seized from the property was severely malnourished and failing to thrive due to multiple ailments. It was decided by the veterinarian that the best course would be to humanly euthanize the dachshund. The other two dogs, both pit bull mixes, are improving and have been pulled by a local privately run rescue. “Now that the civil case is wrapped up, our officers will be turning the case file over to the district attorney’s officer for possible criminal charges in the case” states Matthew Fortenberry of Beaumont Animal Care.
