Closed Captioning and Transcriptions Now Available for All Beaumont City Council Meetings
The City of Beaumont is excited to announce that English and Spanish closed captioning is now available on all City Council videos for both future and archived meetings. Closed captioning displays the audio portion of a program as text on screen, providing a critical link to news and information for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals.
Per the Texas Open Meetings Act, all City Council meetings are open to the public both in-person and live-streamed on the City of Beaumont website and the City’s YouTube channel.
“It is a wonderful step in the right direction for our focus on inclusivity and accessibility to ensure as many citizens as possible have access to city news and updates,” said Mayor Robin Mouton.
The live video captions are compiled by artificial intelligence, which is as accurate as what it can hear. The captions are more accurate if the person speaks loudly and clearly into the microphone. There is a video tutorial on how to activate the closed captioning feature here. If the feature does not show up, please check your browser for updates, or try a different browser.
Transcripts of every City Council meeting beginning on April 5, 2022, are also available on the City of Beaumont website. Please allow up to five (5) days for new transcripts to be made available. Watch this video on how to access and download meeting transcripts.
