Beaumont Animal Care Preps Community for Critter Season

The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer, which means critter season is right around the corner. Beaumont Animal Care sees a variety of wildlife ranging from squirrels, possums, birds, etc. every day. While we love seeing wildlife, it is important not to disturb them.
If you find newborn wildlife, it is better to leave them as is than to intervene. In most cases, the mother is out looking for food and will always return to her babies. If you see an animal fall from its nest but is uninjured, put them in a safe spot and mom will come looking for them. In the unfortunate event that the animal is injured, call 311 to have an ACO dispatched. Place the animal in a container if possible and wait for the officer to arrive and asses the situation. The wildlife will either be relocated or taken to the Wildlife Rehab Center if further care is needed.
Beaumont Animal Care gets flooded with calls about orphaned wildlife, but majority of the time, they are not orphans. Wildlife has a higher chance of survival if they stay with their mothers.
