Planning

The Planning Division is responsible for the comprehensive planning activities of the City and for administering the subdivision regulations. The division provides technical assistance to the Planning Commission, Historic Landmark Commission, and the Zoning Board of Adjustment through the processing of zoning change and specific use permit requests, subdivision plat requests, requests for variances, and special exceptions to the regulations of the zoning ordinance and requests for certificates of appropriateness, historic tax exemptions and historic preservation loans. This division is also responsible for amendments to the zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations. In addition, the Planning Division provides technical assistance to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway Commission and various neighborhood associations.

Pre-Development Meetings

Pre-development meetings are free of charge and offered every Thursday at 9 am, 10 am, and 11 am, first come first served. These meetings may be held in-person or virtually and department plan reviewers will be represented. Large projects such as new construction, large renovations, subdivisions, preliminary projects, etc. are welcome. To schedule your pre-development meeting please log into the Permit Portal.
